Where Should You Shop for Polyphenol Rich Olive Oil?

Countless retailers online and at brick-and-mortar shops sell olive oil these days, and these olive oils vary dramatically in quality and taste. Whereas many high quality oils offer a range of health benefits and superior taste profiles, other oils available for purchase may be spoiled, rancid, and can even do more harm than good for your health. If you’ve ever wondered where to buy polyphenol rich olive oil and found yourself overwhelmed by the options, this guide is for you!

What Factors Should I Consider When Shopping for High Quality Olive Oil?

When shopping for a polyphenol rich olive oil, it’s important to look out for key factors such as:

  • Where the Olive Oil was Produced: Look for olives that are grown in warm, dry climates such as the Mediterranean or California.
  • How the Olive Oil Was Produced: Look for olive oils that are pressed on site. Oils that are produced within 90 minutes of harvest are freshest and taste the best.
  • When the Olive Oil was Produced: Olive oil is generally fresh for about one year after it is pressed, provided it’s been properly packaged and stored.
  • How the Olive Oil has been Packaged and Stored: Olive oils should be stored in opaque glass vessels that are airtight and kept at a stable room temperature to prevent spoilage and oxidation.
  • Whether the Olive Oil has been Third-Party Certified as Polyphenol Rich: The best way to test for polyphenol content is via third party laboratory testing. Frantoio Grove’s EVOO tested at 428 ppm, qualifying it as an outstanding polyphenol rich olive oil.

How Can I Tell if an Olive Oil is Polyphenol Rich?

Polyphenol rich olive oils are fairly easy to recognize if you know what you’re looking for, but there are imposters out there! When searching for a polyphenol rich olive oil, look for olive oils from producers who are transparent about their growing, production, storage, and testing methods. Producers of high-quality oils will likely be willing to share their third-party lab results. Though lab testing is great for identifying polyphenols, it’s important to watch out for producers who “overstuff” their olive oil with polyphenols for the sake of these tests. While high polyphenol content is great, olive oils that are too high in polyphenols don’t actually taste good. An excellent olive oil producer will balance polyphenol content with taste, creating a Goldilocks olive oil that is just right.

Can You Purchase Polyphenol Rich Olive Oil Online?

Yes! At Frantoio Grove, we do sell our award winning olive oil online. It will ship directly to your door. (We also ship gift sets, 3L pouches, and other products if you’re looking for more than just our classic bottle of EVOO!)

While you can absolutely purchase olive oil from major online retailers like Amazon and Walmart, we don’t necessarily recommend doing so. When purchasing from a big box store, you can’t be certain that the olive oil has been stored under optimal conditions, and it may be impossible to determine whether or not the olive oil is actually fresh. Typically, large retailers carry a wide variety of oils, so you’ll also need to sort through the noise to find a quality olive oil. Save time and rest assured that you’re making the right investment by shopping from small or independent producers.

Where Can I Shop for High-Quality Olive Oils?

It’s possible to purchase high-quality EVOOs in a number of locations, from your local grocery store, to speciality foods stores, to gift shops, to farmers’ markets. However, not every oil carried by every retailer, even a small retailer, will be an EVOO or a polyphenol rich olive oil.

For a reliable way to purchase high quality olive oils, we recommend identifying a small producer whose oil is guaranteed to taste great every time. Check out the California Olive Oil Council’s Member Directory to find a qualified list of olive oil growers, producers, and retailers who are invested in crafting outstanding olive oil, not just in selling it.
