Our Friends, The Bean Team
We have been working with Rancho Gordo for a while now and before that we were long time fans. What we like most - well that would be the absolutely beautiful, delicious beans and the warmth they bring to every table we serve them on, but more than that, is their commitment to the agricultural heritage of the humble bean.
Cultures the world around have grown legumes as a staple crop and for the enrichment they provide to the soil. As cultures developed and people moved across the land, traded, and encountered new species, the beans that people have grown have become as unique and expressive as the cultures they are a part of.
As the world economy globalizes and continues to push for maximum yield and efficiency, these cultural heirlooms have been pushed aside in favor of a handful of beans grown on factory farms to be shipped across the country and the world. There's nothing wrong with a hearty pot of pinto beans, but the standardization and commodification of our agricultural products puts at risk the worlds culinary traditions.
Rancho Gordo is cultivating relationships to restore and preserve these traditions. The result is a diverse and stunning range of beans, pulses, and grains that bring a story to your dinner table, will warm your heart, and most importantly delight your taste buds. We think that's worth celebrating. Enjoy!
